St. Jacques Church

St Jacques’ Church is on the St Jacques de Compostelle pilgrimage route. It is essentially a Romanesque church but has undergone many alterations over the centuries. In the nineteenth century it was deemed too small for its large congregation and a new church, Notre Dame, was built and consecrated in 1865. St Jacques, however, far from being abandoned was renovated.

The Covered Market

The metal covered market was built on this site in 1885, and was enlarged in 1934 after a devastating fire. This market is a great place to go to walk around and browse through the different stalls which offer a wide range of arts and crafts, snacks, wines, fruits, local foods and a whole lot more.

Place Pelissiere

This is the largest and most beautiful square in Bergerac, and was once the square where the skin merchants traded their goods. It has amazing views of the St Jacques church and bell-tower wall. At the bottom of the square there is one of the only places where the canal is still visible.

Château de Monbazillac

Discover Bergerac's most renowned wine and what makes this appellation so special, known from the 11th century. Overlooking hillside vineyards, the château (classified as Historical Monument from the 11th century) holds the history of local Protestantism and features a fine collection of 17th century furniture and the museum of vine and wine.
